What We Treat

At Midwest Recovery Centers, we treat many mental health conditions, delving into the root causes for true recovery rather than just treating symptoms.

These include:

Anxiety

Anxiety is more than occasionally feeling nervous or worried. It’s something leading to ongoing, often constant feelings of dread, fear, and a sense of uneasiness. Anxiety can cause physical symptoms, and it usually worsens over time when it goes untreated. Types of anxiety disorders we treat at Midwest Recovery Centers include generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Depression

Depression (major depressive disorder) is a serious illness affecting thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You may feel sad, lose interest in things you once enjoyed, have feelings of guilt or worthlessness, or have problems with thinking or decision-making. Untreated depression can also lead to physical conditions and, in severe cases, may cause thoughts of death or suicide.

Bipolar

Bipolar disorder causes extreme emotional highs, known as mania or hypomania, and lows, known as depression. There are a few types of bipolar disorder, and each can cause significant distress and problems with functioning in daily life. Treating bipolar can be complex because it’s frequently accompanied by a co-occurring disorder, such as a substance use disorder, anxiety disorder, or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Schizophrenia

A serious mental illness affecting thoughts, feelings, and behavior, schizophrenia can be distressing for the person with the diagnosis and those around them. Symptoms, when untreated, can make it hard to participate in usual activities, but with appropriate treatment, independent living, thriving relationships, and a sense of well-being are possible.

Personality Disorders

A personality disorder, without treatment, causes affected people to have lifelong patterns of seeing themselves and interacting with others in problematic ways. It can be challenging for someone with a personality disorder to tolerate times of distress or understand emotions, leading to impulsive behaviors.

Integrated Mental Health Treatment

The programs at Midwest Recovery Centers are integrated, so we focus on all aspects of each patient’s well-being. This includes mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional.

Integrated mental health care can include:

  • Cognitive-behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Spiritual Psychology
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Experiential Groups
  • Process Groups
  • Art Therapy
  • Creative Writing
  • Light Therapy
  • Mindfulness
  • Yoga
  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
  • Exercise Plans
  • Nutrition and Gut Health

Since we do offer an integrated approach to address all of a person’s needs, care teams may include therapists and counselors, medical doctors, and other healthcare experts.

What to Expect

Mental health treatment programs last 45 days at Midwest Recovery Centers. During this time, patients can expect:
  • Intensive therapy to learn coping mechanisms, self-care, and medication management.
  • Holistic and naturopathic approaches.
  • A comfortable and safe residential environment.
  • Preparation with tools and strategies to transition to independent living.
  • Ongoing support from case managers and therapists after the 45-day program is complete.
  • A step-down approach to gradually prepare patients to return to their home environment.
There are often stigmas associated with mental health conditions. We recognize that, so education is essential to our programs at Midwest Recovery Centers. We work with not only patients but their families to help them understand that while mental illness is a chronic condition, it’s also treatable and can be successfully managed.
