What We Treat

Anxiety isn’t just occasionally feeling stressed or worried. It’s much more overwhelming and often requires a specialized treatment approach. Anxiety disorders are different from everyday or “normal” anxiety. When you have an anxiety disorder, you may face difficulties at school or work, in relationships, and day-to-day functionality.

Some of the types of anxiety disorders we treat at Midwest Recovery Centers include generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and specific phobias.

An Integrated Approach to Treating Anxiety

Our programs at Midwest Recovery Centers are holistic and integrate many treatment approaches. This allows us to focus on all areas of your well-being. As we develop a tailored treatment plan, we’ll consider your:
  • Presenting problem
  • Degree of psychological distress.
  • Mental and physical symptoms
  • Your belief system
  • Your support system
  • Many other factors
Integrated approaches to care address all of your needs, and you’ll be working with a team of doctors, therapists, and other experts. Your treatment plan could include any of a number of modalities, like:
  • Psychotherapy (talk therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and dialectical-behavioral therapy)
  • Spiritual psychology
  • Yoga
  • Exercise, nutrition, and gut health plans
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Art therapy
  • Creative writing
  • Light therapy
  • Mindfulness
  • Process groups
  • Somatic experiencing
  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Our Approach to Anxiety Treatment

At Midwest Recovery Centers, we aren’t an acute care facility. Instead, we are a bridge between acute care and a patient being prepared to transition back into healthy, fulfilling daily living successfully. Our environment is highly structured but also supportive and compassionate.

Anxiety Treatment Programs—What to Expect

Our 45-day program for treating anxiety at Midwest Recovery Centers is a step-down plan. Our expert team uses an approach where patients initially start out seeing their therapist at least twice a week for several weeks. Then, as they’re ready, they step down to see their therapist once a week. Finally, they progress to a point where they’re ready to leave residential treatment with us and begin reintegrating back into their home environment. As part of the step-down approach, patients initially see a psychiatric nurse practitioner each day, and then they step down to three times a week, then two, and so on.

Medication Management

Depending on the situation, a patient may require medication management, which we do offer at Midwest Recovery Centers. Our medication management program relies on the advanced technology of pharmacogenomics or PGx testing. This uses your DNA to predict how you’ll respond to a particular medicine and the likelihood of experiencing side effects.
